About
106 group started during a meeting to plan one of the members function. At that time we realized that we had a large group from the same location back in Kenya who either did not know each other or did not know that they were all living in the New England area. It was agreed that it would be a good idea if a get together was planned so that people could meet, share a meal together and get to know each other. The first meeting was held in Webster Massachusetts in 2013, and was a huge success that we all agreed to make this an annual event. During subsequent meetings, we agreed that it would be a good idea to formalize the group, starting with member registration then start working on ideas to help our community hear and back in Kenya. In November 2014, the name “106 Banana Hill Group” was affirmed and it was agreed that the now “106 group” would take on the task of finding students who had excelled in the standard 8 exams (KCPE) with 300 points and above, and who would otherwise never proceed to high school unless there was a financial intervention. The pioneers of the group were, James Kimani, Michael Chege, Charles Njuguna Martin Wanjohi, Sarah Kagacha, Anne Kimani, Benson Waweru, David Njoroge among others.
